Offering Long-Lasting Dentures to Patients from Across the Schenectady, NY Area

Dentures are artificial teeth and gums that are formed to your mouth and are created by your dentists to replace lost or removed natural teeth. Imitating the natural look and feel of real teeth, dentures are made up out of porcelain, plastic, or hard resin. The materials that are used to make dentures are known to be more fragile than natural teeth and can be easily chipped or cracked if dropped or are left uncared for. Since these materials are more sensitive than your natural teeth, they need to be replaced every 5 years or so.

Everyone’s dental health is a bit different, but dentures can either be full or partial, meaning they can either replace all teeth on either the top or bottom gum line or just a few that are missing. No matter what kind of dentures you may need, they need to be custom made to fit in your mouth comfortably and to visibly match your existing teeth. Luckily, our team at Glenville Smiles is equipped to take care of your dentures needs. Give us a call today to set up an appointment! For more information, please check out our FAQ.

Reasons You Might Need Dentures

You don’t visit the dentist regularly – Going to the dentist twice a year is crucial. This prevents gum disease and tooth decay. When you stop going to the dentist regularly, these untreated culprits will cause tooth loss eventually.

Your gums are red, swollen, tender, or bleeding – These are tell-all signs of gum inflammation. This inflammation will eventually lead to gum disease which causes about 70% of adult tooth loss. If you catch these signs in the early stages, your dentist can help restore your tooth health, so you can keep your natural teeth.

Toothaches – When you start to experience severe pain, it can be a sign that decay has progressed so much that it’s attacking the nerve in the center of the tooth. When caught early, tooth decay can be treated with a simple filling, but when it’s advanced, the options are more invasive and costly. Ultimately, if decayed teeth are salvageable your dentist will do what they can to keep your natural teeth, but if they have to remove any, that is when dentures will come in.

Missing a couple of teeth – Those who have lost more than two or three teeth should seek some sort of prosthesis, otherwise, the pressure on the remaining teeth will be too great. Ultimately, when you start to lose teeth, you begin to lose some sort of function along with that.

Having trouble eating hard or chewy foods – When you have difficulty eating certain foods, it might be caused by a cracked tooth, missing teeth, cavities or gum disease. If caught early enough, your dentist may be able to salvage your teeth. If the damage has already been done, then most likely it will lead to a prosthesis.

Self-conscious about smiling – There are some patients who elect to have dentures for aesthetic purposes. Regardless, opting for dentures deserves careful thought and consideration, so it is best to consult with a dental professional to determine what’s best for you.
